Deep tissue massage does not mean Sports massage and not all deep tissue massage need be painful. Deep tissue massage uses various techniques that include focusing on the deeper layers of muscle tissues and tendons. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia. Deep tissue massage is also used to release chronic muscle tension through slower movements and more direct deep pressure or friction; it also helps to break up and eliminate old scar tissue.
This technique is very powerful, can really reconnect you with your body and after treatment clients have remarked how they feel taller and 'stretched out', leaving them feeling more agile with improved fluid mobility and added ease of movement. During the treatment I will switch between using my hands, knuckles, thumbs, fingers, forearms and elbows; as I move around the table it is almost like a dance, flowing smoothly from one move into the next, never breaking contact.
